Who does God use?

1 Corinthians 1:26-31

For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”

When God decided that it was time for the sons of Israel to move out of Egypt and onto the promised land he picked Moses to be his messenger. Moses didn’t think God had the right guy. Moses had been a shepherd for forty years. The Egyptians despised shepherds. Pharaoh wouldn’t listen to a shepherd. Moses didn’t think the Israelites would listen to him either.

Exodus 3:13-14, “Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?”And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”

He didn’t even know what to say if someone asked him who sent him. God promised to be with him and gave him signs to perform and he even gave Moses his name “I AM THAT I AM”. Moses still objected that he wasn’t a good speaker and couldn’t God send someone else, anyone else? Exodus 4:10, “Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” Exodus 4:13, “  But he said, “O my Lord, please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.” Despite all of his objections God still sent him and used him to deliver the people out of Egypt.

When people look for people to fill positions they want to find the most qualified candidate. When God goes to put someone into a position he picks someone through whom his power and glory can be seen. Moses had run away from Egypt after killing a man and then spent forty years tending sheep in the wilderness. But Moses had this quality, humility. Numbers 12:3, “Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.

Hebrews 11:23-29

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command.

By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.

By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned.

It takes humility to respond in faith to the call of God. The Lord has a calling on each of our lives. Right now, where you are tending the sheep or whatever you do, no matter your objections, Because, 2 Corinthians 12:9, ” “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
