-He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
Imagine the architect of the Sydney Opera House taking a tour of his creation, anonymously, with a regular tour group. See him walking along, listening to the tour guide parroting facts without understanding. How would it go if he spoke up and tried to convince the group that he actually knew much more than the guide? Multiply that times infinity and see Creator God taking a walking tour of His creation in the form of Jesus.
-But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God
Everyone who ever lived has wanted to become more than they are. It was the cause of the first fall. It is the reason self-help books never go out of style and why present disillusionment persistently gives way to new heights of irrational enthusiasm. We know we were meant for more.
The power to become. It’s a tantalizing idea in itself but the goal of this power is beyond comprehension, namely the power to become sons of God. Not generically sons as creations but born of God into brotherhood with Christ himself, raised to the level of sinless perfection in God’s sight because we believe on his name.
