John 19:13-15 King Jesus

When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus out and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha. Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold your King!”

But they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!”

Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?”

The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”

We are failing forward through the year 2020. But, have we been mindful of the import of that number? Two thousand and twenty years ago a baby was born to a poor couple in a nation under occupation. A most unlikely beginning for a life so significant that every year since then is marked from it. But so it is, and our world is strongly shaped by the power and influence of The LORD Jesus the Christ, The King of kings and Lord of lords.

Jesus is the King whose subjects are all volunteers.  Psalm 110:3, ” Your people shall be volunteers
In the day of Your power”

Jesus is the King who conquers the enemies no other king could conquer, namely sin and death. And he did so not by sending others to die for him but by he himself dying for us. Romans 5:8, ” But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Jesus is the King who truly reigns by divine right. Acts 2:36, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

Jesus is the King who will judge everything and everyone.  Revelation 20:11-15, “11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

Jesus is King over all. Philippians 2:9-11, ”  Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
