John 19:25-30 It is Finished!

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.

After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

Psalm 22:31, “They will proclaim his righteousness,
declaring to a people yet unborn:
    He has done it!”

Now the work of the cross is done. Jesus proclaimed it finished. What is it, and what does it mean that it’s finished?

Hebrews 10: 10-14,By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”

Romans 6:8-11, “Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

“My sin, O the bliss of this glorious thought, my sin not in part but the whole, has been nailed to the cross and I bear it no more praise the LORD, praise the LORD O my soul!”

The glory wrought by Jesus through the cross ultimately outweighs what would have even been if man had never fallen. Innocent but not redeemed man would be himself but would never have the Holy Spirit to reside with him. Fallen but redeemed, alive in Christ we have the Spirit of Christ within every believer forever. Read Daniel 24-27. Daniel 9:26, “And after the sixty-two weeks
Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself”
