Our Identity as Instruments of God’s will
Matthew 6:9b-10
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
In these lines Jesus is calling us to align our purposes with God’s will. In heaven God’s will is carried out perfectly. As we bring our lives into conformity with His Life we participate in God’s work in the redemption of the world.
And God spoke all these words, saying:
2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
The Lord seems pretty serious regarding the dignity of his name. As I’m praying, “Hallowed be thy name” I’m praying that God’s name will be honored and magnified in my life, in my family, in my work, in my church, in my town, in my country, and in the entire world. As I align my thoughts and actions with God’s will that his name should be glorified I participate in the will of God that is working out the redemption of the world.
What does making God’s name hallowed look like in your life?
Romans 14:17
for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Isaiah 9:6-7
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
The kingdom of God that is Righteousness peace and joy will increase into eternity.
How can we participate in the coming of God’s kingdom?
Romans 12:1-2
I beseechyou therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing,in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Am I prepared not only to seek God’s will but to carry it out?
When our conduct matches our confession the world gets a glimpse of heaven. The faith that loves without reservation but in all humility with depths of forgiveness and heights of joy makes what happens on earth just as it is in heaven.
Where is there a need for a glimpse of heaven? Can we bring it there?
